Finishing Self Portrait

I am finishing my self portrait in this week and there are some works i need to do:
1. Finish coloring the back ground. I had some issue with mixing the color and i will try again this week.
2. Clean up the face part.
3. Finish the skeleton,

At the end, I figure out that I may need to cut off a narrow piece from the right side to move my body to the  golden section a little bit. When people see it they can easily see the part which i do want to show them.

Right now I really like how it came out. I do believe it should be very good when i finish it.

Self Portrait

This painting is from Brian Despain, who did some very interesting self portrait.
The link to his website is :
http://despainart.com/index.php/site/gallery/self-portrait/2007

This painting shows a feeling of the passing of time, and the paint brush in his (the skull's) mouth tells the reader that " Painting is his life, or live for painting."

This idea is very similar to my idea of "Art is my Drug" (thanks Doyle).

This is his another painting I do really like!

Cool drawings --Sep 23 2011

I am a kind of person who do not like too much details, but when I saw this drawing, I was shocked.

Ho can he draw a landscape this cool?! I feel like I can look into it!

By the details, the artist shows the contrast well!
May be next time in my drawings i can put in some details and show more contrast by doing it.

Ivan Shishkin

Ivan's paintings make me feels like I am in the picture, and I can feel the nature he drew is around me. He is not well known, but I like his paintings!

I really like this one because it is like my "Found", which I drew last year.

Edouard Manet- the start of Impressionism -May 2nd 2011

Manet was a very important artist in the history of Impressionism.

The reason i do want to post this cool guy on my blog is not only because he is the finder of Impressionism, but also he has a very similar name with "Monet". HAHAHA!

When i was in middle school, my dad brought me to art museum once. And that day the show was for Manet's painting. The one i really like is Young Flautist

Ths painting gave me a big shock and i feels like the young boy in the painting is standing out from the painting.

Édouard Manet (23 January 1832 – 30 April 1883) was a French painter. One of the first 19th-century artists to approach modern-life subjects, he was a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism.
His early masterworks, The Luncheon on the Grass (Le déjeuner sur l'herbe) and Olympia, engendered great controversy and served as rallying points for the young painters who would create Impressionism. Today, these are considered watershed paintings that mark the genesis of modern art. ( From Wikipedia)

What makes me inspired? Apr. 13th. 2011

What makes me inspired?

There are a lot of things in this world can inspire me in my art works.  Movies, websites that I look on, and also the magazines or books I read all the time. When I was in China, my dad and I always go to museums to have a look. There were many good museums in Beijing, which do have art exhibitions sometimes. We did like to spend half a day in museums and really enjoy the arts that made by those famous artists. But the thing I always do to inspire my mind is talking with people. The conversations are always just in five minutes, but they do help me a lot.
I love talking with people around, no matter we are friends or have never seen each other before, I do like to talk with them and share my opinions with them. I am a kind of person that hates reading. I don’t like reading is because that I do not like reading so many words line up together. But I do love reading the books with pictures in it. I feel like they are just more interesting and I can understand the things from the pictures. After my reading, I always find someone to talk about it. By talking to other people, I can understand the topic better and get some other opinions. Their ideas really inspire me and I do use those ideas to create some art works. Sometimes, I love to share my ideas to my friends, and their replies are always the things I can never think about. They help me to make my paintings or drawings more interesting all the time.
I also talk to people, who I have never seen before. By talking to them, I learn their life and how do they view things. Every one’s daily life is different. They may have the experience I don’t have or may have the ideas that I have never thought about. Those things always bright my mind and give me ideas of my art works. And also, different people’s life experiences can make my arts more meaningful.
Talking to people is a great way to inspire myself. It gives me more crazy ideas and more articles to paint. And with talking to other people, I can make more friends too.

pointillism-Feb 26 2011

Pointillism
Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term Pointillism was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier mocking connotation.

VanGogh 1887

VanGogh's this art work had a great use of Pointillism, the mix of color make it moving and realistic.

Claude Monet- Feb 14th 2011

Claude Monet (French pronunciation: [klod mɔnɛ]), born Oscar Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926), was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-airlandscape painting.[1][2] The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant).

Monet is one of my most favorite artist. His works looks very comfortable and realistic. Most of them were painted by a special way which makes the shape very hazy. I love this way of painting, though it is very hard to control.

I am trying to learn this way of painting.
